It’s Time to Start Training for the NYC Marathon!

This it the actual subject line of the email that I received from the NYRR.  Yes, on June 12th, it’s time to START training for the marathon on November 5th.

Who hasn’t started training yet?  Is this marathon going to be one where people just show up on race day and run 26.2 miles??  Seriously???  Crap.  I think I am going to come in last.

We have managed to put together a few good weeks of runs.  We are doing track and the workouts are stupid hard, primarily because I am old, slow and out of shape.  Our long run is up to 8+ miles.  We are consistently running 16-20 miles per week.  So, NYRR, yes, we have already started training!

The running is happening.  I am working on cooking and eating healthy.  I even spatchcocked a chicken!

Spatchcocked chicken!

We are running, trying to eat healthy, cutting down on wine (sadness) but still trying to enjoy life while training.

We are heading to NYC next week for a little vacation.  I booked the vacation prior to getting into the marathon. Since I am not the type of runner who has an easy time mixing vacations and training, I needed to find a way to maintain our fitness and get excited about running in the Big Apple so I decided to sign us up for a race.  On Sunday, June 18th, we will be running a 10K.  The Running of the Balls.  I will give a full update after the race.  It should be a fantastic time!!

Thank you for your support!!  Below are our donation links.  Since I have a bigger network than Billy, I would ask that if you are going to donate to see which of us needs the money more and donate there.  It’s all the same cause and will help us to keep our minimum.
